Female MNA weeps in House
ISLAMABAD: An independent female lawmaker started weeping in the National Assembly on Thursday because of comments made by PML-N leader Khwaja Asif – who was initially unable to recognise the parliamentarian. Asif was addressing the House when Farkhanda Amjad Warraich approached the prime minister to get some papers signed by him. Asif asked the deputy speaker to stop parliamentarians from meeting the prime minister in violation of the decorum of the House. With Farkhanda wrapped in a shawl similar to one worn by the PML-N’s Saira Tarar, someone from the House misidentified her – saying she was a member of Asif’s party. But when the parliamentarian turned her face towards Asif, he abruptly said that she was “a stranger” in the House. The deputy speaker, however, told Asif that she was an honourable member. Asif then said, “Mr speaker, you and I should keep an eye on her to recognise her in future.” However, the apparent attempt at making a joke resulted in an embarrassing scene: it was found that Farkhanda was weeping. Asif realised his mistake and went to her seat to apologise. irfan bukhari
